The Ayako High boot was initially designed for Via ferrata use in the Alps. However this very capable lightweight boot is ideal for Scottish scrambling and three season mountain use. The boot has enough flex longitudinally for walk ins yet is torsionally stiff enough for long mountain scrambles. The lacing system extends right into the toe box to give a precise fit when needed, this coupled with Mammut's Base fit system that really holds the heel in place combine to make this boot feel very secure. The Vibram Mulaza outsole has a climbing zone toe area for greater friction when scrambling. Mammut have not added a lot of cushioning under the foot of this boot as it would compromise the feel and grip while scrambling.
